Seattle United alum Paul Rothrock helps guide Georgetown Hoyas to NCAA National Championship

Seattle United alum Paul Rothrock (B98 Copa) and the Georgetown Hoyas won the NCAA Division I National Championship on Sunday night, defeating the University of Virginia in penalty kicks after the match had ended in a 3-3 stalemate.

Paul was the first to score in regulation for the Hoyas.

The two teams fought through two scoreless 10-minute overtime periods after finishing regulation tied at 3, leaving penalty kicks to decide the game. Both teams made their first six penalty kicks, and with Georgetown making their seventh, forced Virginia to attempt to match it.

Georgetown’s keeper guessed correctly and saved Virginia’s kick, giving the Hoyas the victory.

As the captain of Seattle United’s B98 Copa team that fell short of a US Youth Soccer National Championship in 2015, we are so thrilled we were able to see Paul go on and win a NCAA Division 1 National Championship—All of us at Seattle United couldn’t be more proud!
