Redapt Joins Seattle United as Title Sponsor
SEATTLE February 9, 2019 – Forging a partnership that promises to create new opportunities and educational pathways for youth, Seattle United FC has announced that Redapt will become the premier soccer club’s title sponsor, supporting athletic aspirations of youth throughout the Puget Sound area.
The sponsorship will greatly enhance Seattle United’s existing financial aid program, as well as initiate a college scholarship program for outgoing players, said Jimmy McAlister, Director of Soccer.
“Redapt is a perfect partner because we share a love for the game and a commitment to youth,” McAlister said. “We have some pretty remarkable kids—boys and girls who have received financial aid and gone on to accomplish outstanding things. This is an investment in helping more kids and our community.”
“We value being part of this community and coming together with Seattle United to help kids who may not be able to otherwise afford it,” said Rick Cantu, Chief Executive Officer of Redapt, based in Redmond, Wash. “Seattle United demonstrates excellence from their values and mission statement, all the way to the way they develop kids into leaders.”
Rick, along with Dave Cantu, Redapt’s Chief Operating Officer, were raised in Kent, Wash., and thrived playing soccer as youth and young adults. The partnership grew from an airport conversation between McAlister and Rick Cantu in which they discussed their roots in the game and their shared desire to keep it accessible.
“This game is near to my heart,” said Rick Cantu. “It’s a great sport that teaches life lessons and how to compete, and it develops these kids into leaders. Soccer is a large part of who we are. We are local, and we want to be supportive of our community.”
In the past Seattle United’s financial aid program has provided up to $275,000 annually in club scholarships.
“We will offer academic scholarships for players who have been loyal to the club, good students and assets to the community,” said McAlister, adding that Cantu will actively participate in the program. “The Redapt Scholarship Program is not about helping top-end players, but rather about helping kids pay for college who have demonstrated academic promise and who have given back to their own communities.”
Seattle United and its players are known for being active in the surrounding community and beyond, through food bank drives, after-school programming and helping local high schools outfit their teams. They also participate in supplying uniforms to children in Africa.
“It’s our duty to serve the kids,” said McAlister. “I believe Seattle United is more than a soccer club. We’re a community asset.”
